Protected as a historical monument since January 2022, this dreamlike work offers the visitor an inner journey, full of references to distant civilizations. Around the central pool, the walkway leads to the exhibition rooms where Robert Tatin himself displayed ceramics, paintings, writings, drawings and watercolors.<\/p>\n        <\/figcaption>\n          <\/figure>\n  <\/figure>\n\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"jardin\"><\/div>\n\n<section class=\"display2 display2__grey\">\n  <h2>Gardens<\/h2>\n<p>From the small vegetable garden that adjoined the house when the artist first arrived to the current estate of over six hectares, the green setting that houses the museum has never stopped evolving. The main developments around the museum were carried out from 1997 onwards in accordance with Robert Tatin&rsquo;s wishes and with the desire to enhance and preserve the identity of his work. It was not a question of reproducing a garden model but of creating flowered and wooded areas as a visual, intellectual and spiritual extension of the museum.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"display2__cards flex\">\n              <div class=\"display2__card flex__col\">\n          <h3>LABYRINTH<\/h3>\n          <figure class=\"display2__card__img\">\n            <img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/patrimoine.lamayenne.fr\/robert-tatin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Robert-Tatin-Labyrinthe.jpg\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 680px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 680\/480;\">\n                      <\/figure>\n          <p>The planting of the six hundred hornbeam trees on approximately 1000 m\u00b2 was carried out in 2009 based on drawings and sketches by Robert Tatin. The term labyrinth is inaccurate: it is not a question of getting lost but rather of a meditative and playful path, without any dead ends or cul-de-sacs.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n            <div class=\"display2__card flex__col\">\n          <h3>BUTTERFLY REFUGE<\/h3>\n          <figure class=\"display2__card__img\">\n            <img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/patrimoine.lamayenne.fr\/robert-tatin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Rober-Tatin-Petites-Reine-et-papillons.jpg\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 680px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 680\/480;\">\n                      <\/figure>\n          <p>Since 2008, the museum&rsquo;s gardens have been recognized as a butterfly refuge in association with the G.R.E.T.I.A. (in french Groupe d&rsquo;Etude des Invert\u00e9br\u00e9s Armoricains). At the age of 17 he discovered the great Parisian museums. From that time on he had an undying admiration for certain artists of the past to whom he paid homage in his own artworks. <br>He enrolled at the \u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris (Paris School of Fine Arts) and then at the fresco workshop of the \u00c9cole des Arts Appliqu\u00e9s (School of Applied Arts), where he learned the pictorial techniques that allowed him to express his thoughts and where he developed, which he claimed all his life, for the craft work of the material. <br>After the Second World War and until the beginning of the 1980s, international galleries promoted and distributed his paintings. Others were exhibited and won international prizes. In 1947, in his Parisian \u00ab\u00a0bougnat\u00a0\u00bb (coalman shop) converted into a small ceramics studio on rue de la Cerisaie, he used to receive Jean Dubuffet and Jacques Pr\u00e9vert&#8230; The critics were enthusiastic and the press wrote glowing articles about him. However, his refusal to compromise led Robert Tatin to decline the invitation to exhibit his ceramics with the Compagnie de l&rsquo;Art Brut (Art Brut Company) and in 1950 he left for South America.<\/p>\n<p>With the support of Matarazzo Sobrinho, a major figure in Brazilian art, he continued to experiment with innovative techniques and won a first prize at the first S\u00e3o Paulo Biennial in 1951. From then on, he had one exhibition after another.
